I'm A Proud Mama

My son's artwork was selected to be a part of  a special exhibition at Siena College in Loudonville NY. He participated in an enrichment program at his elementary school in which they were encouraged to create a piece of art that answers the question "What would Martin Luther King do to heal the earth?"

His answer was work together in harmony. So sweet.

Tonight was the reception and my first chance to see his artwork. I loved it.

I am such a proud mama. I love my children's artwork and truly try to help them develop their talents. He has also had his artwork on display in an area library and he has written 3 books. Pretty accomplished little boy for the ripe old age of 8.

Snow Flakes Are Falling Somewhere

 A fun and traditional children's project is the snowflake! But, where do they go once they've been created? Many times we have put our snow flakes on our sliding glass door. This year I decided we would decorate that corner in the dining room that never gets any love!

My son spent at least a couple hours meticulously cutting out his little snowflakes then we glued on the glitter (which got everywhere, but isn't that the point if it?). Then we let them dry. I received a ton of Christmas bows as a gift recently, so I decided to put them to good use making the rows and rows for the flakes to be displayed! Then it took me a good hour or two (remember, I'm a mom of 3 kids!LOL) to create all the pink bows. We stapled the snow flakes to the ribbon (no need to worry, the silver from the staple won't stand out) and then stood back and admired our creation!

My son declared three things. He didn't like the pink (he's all boy!), but he actually thought the pink theme worked very well with the gold (he's also a great artist) and it looked like a wedding display (a fun wedding he would want to go to and eat lots of cake)! LOL- Regardless, we had such fun making this display and we really do admire it while we're eating dinner. It makes me giggle- because it kinda does look like a wedding display and I really like that! Wanna know about that crazy fun looking feathered Christmas tree? Frame Fix

My 8 year old son says "A mistake is a good thing!" when it comes to art. I love him so much for telling me that. It's true- you don't need to be "perfect" in your art- in fact allowing yourself to be more organic and a little flawed frees you from the search for the impossible.

I acquired several antique picture frames at a garage sale this summer and this one was "flawed" and almost headed to the dump. Instead I pulled out the tacky glue and decided to glue it back together. With a crack like this one it's very hard to exactly match up the fracture lines, but I kept my son's advice in mind. This mistake was a good thing! I did my best to help the glue fuse together and allowed the final product to show its little imperfection.

There are paints you can match up and you can disguise the crack even further- but for me I love it just the way it is. Remember- "A mistake is a good thing!"
